Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Household-first, budget-friendly info for Christchurch & Selwyn.

What can I put in a general waste skip?
General household waste — e.g. packaging, furniture, carpets, plastics, cardboard, and timber/ply offcuts.
  • Not allowed: soil; lath & plaster; hardfill (concrete/brick/tiles); liquids (paint/oils/chemicals); hazardous items (asbestos, batteries, gas bottles); tyres.
Do not mix any soil or hardfill with general rubbish.
What can’t go in a general waste skip?
  • Soil
  • Lath & plaster
  • Hardfill (concrete, brick, tiles) — use a hardfill bin
  • Liquids (paint, oils, chemicals)
  • Hazardous items (asbestos, batteries, gas bottles)
  • Tyres
What is hardfill?

Hardfill = concrete, brick, pavers, tiles, and clean soil. Use a hardfill-only bin.

Do not include: general rubbish, green waste, timber, plasterboard, plastics. Do not mix hardfill with other waste types.

Which size should I choose?
  • 2m³ Mini: Very small jobs & garden waste — too small for bulky items.
  • 4.5m³ Small: Small clean-ups & DIY touch-ups — not suited to bulky loads.
  • 6m³ Medium: Fits larger items & room clear-outs — not for whole-home jobs.
  • 7m³ Large: Beds, mattresses & bigger clean-ups — often seen on building sites.

How long is the hire?
Our standard hire is 5 days. If your scheduled pickup falls on a weekend, we’ll collect on the following Monday. Need it longer or picked up sooner? Call us to update your booking.
Public holidays: pickup shifts to the next business day.
When do you deliver & pick up?
We deliver weekdays only — no weekend deliveries unless arranged beforehand. If you won’t be home, please clearly mark the placement spot and ensure access is clear from 7am.
Where can you place the bin?
On private property (driveway or front yard) with level, firm ground. Street/footpath placement usually needs a council permit arranged beforehand.
Do you need special access?
We need clear, safe access for the truck. Tell us about tight driveways, low trees/wires, narrow gates, or steep/soft ground. If anything’s unusual, send a photo.
How full can I fill the bin?
Level with the rim only. Nothing stacked above the sides or sticking out. For safety we can’t collect overfilled bins — remove excess before pickup.
What about weight limits?

General waste bins (no soil or hardfill) — included weight:

  • 2m³: 250 kg
  • 4.5m³: 450 kg
  • 6m³: 700 kg
  • 7m³: 900 kg

Hardfill bin (concrete/brick/tiles/clean soil — level load only):

  • 2m³ hardfill: 2,000 kg included

Overweight charge (all bins): $45 per 100 kg (or part thereof) over the included allowance.

What if my bin is full early?
Call us to update your booking. We can arrange an early pickup or a swap (fees may apply). Keep the load level and access clear from 7am.
Do you take mattresses/whiteware?
Yes — we can take mattresses and whiteware (fridges, washers, dryers). No extra charges; standard weight limits apply.
Do you take green waste?
  • General skips: you can include small amounts of green waste mixed with household rubbish.
  • Green-waste skips: green waste only (branches, leaves, hedge trimmings, lawn clippings). No general rubbish, no soil/dirt, no treated timber.
How do I pay?
  • Payment timing: Pay on or before drop-off, or pay online when ordering.
  • Over-weight charges: If the bin exceeds the allowance, we charge after disposal and email you the weigh docket showing any excess weight.
How do I book?
  • Online: Click “Book a Bin.” Choose your size, waste type (general/green/hardfill), suburb/address and date. Tick the Skip Bin Rules checkbox, then pay online to confirm.
  • Hire length: Standard 5 days unless arranged beforehand.
  • Offline booking: Call 027-2054877 and we’ll arrange the details.
What areas do you serve?
Christchurch City and nearby areas, including Selwyn (e.g. Rolleston/Faringdon) and Waimakariri (e.g. Kaiapoi/Rangiora). If you’re just outside these, call us.
Can I change or cancel?
Please call us at least 24 hours before your scheduled delivery to change or cancel without fees. Inside 24 hours, a call-out fee may apply if the truck is already dispatched.
Can you put the bin on the street/kerb/footpath?
Usually no without a council permit arranged beforehand. Without a permit we cannot place the bin on the road, berm, or footpath.

Important: If the bin is outside your property, it’s open to misuse (others adding rubbish). You are responsible for the bin while on-site — including contents, any damage, safe loading, and any overweight/contamination charges.

What if the truck can’t access the bin on the day?
If access is blocked (cars, locked gates, low branches/wires, soft or steep ground), we may need to reschedule and a call-out fee may apply. Keep the area clear from 7am and mark the placement spot.
Do I need to be home for delivery?
You don’t need to be home if the spot is clearly marked and access is clear from 7am. Payment must be made before delivery (pay online when booking or by prior arrangement). If access is tight or there are gates/locks, please be on-site or leave instructions.
What if other people put stuff in my bin?
Bins are your responsibility while on-site — that includes contents and weight.
  • Place the bin on private property (driveway/behind a gate).
  • Cover at night with a tarp and straps, and start filling soon after delivery.
  • Request pickup as soon as it’s full.
Extra items may incur over-weight/contamination charges.
Will the bin damage my driveway or lawn?
We take care, but trucks and bins are heavy. Place the bin on hard, level ground. Lawns/soft ground are at your risk (ruts/indentations may occur). We’re not responsible for damage to surfaces or underground services unless you’ve advised us and we’ve agreed in writing.
