Last updated: 3 September 2025

  1. Who we are
Christchurch Skip Hire (Pete’s Skips) provides skip bin hire and rubbish removal services in Christchurch and nearby areas. In this policy “we/us/our” means Christchurch Skip Hire (Pete’s Skips).
  2. What this policy covers
This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we use and share it, how long we keep it, and your rights under New Zealand’s Privacy Act 2020.
  3. The information we collect
    • Contact details: name, phone number, email.
    • Service details: delivery address, suburb, access notes (e.g. shared driveways, placement instructions), booking dates.
    • Job information: bin size and waste type, photos you send for quotes or site access, weigh dockets after disposal.
    • Payment information: payment status and references from our payment provider (we do not store full card numbers).
    • Communications: emails, texts, call notes and messages you send us.
    • Website and device data: basic logs, cookies and analytics used to keep the site working and improve it (see “Cookies & analytics”).
  4. How we collect information
    • Directly from you when you book online, call, text or email, or send photos.
    • Automatically when you use our website (cookies/analytics).
    • From third parties as needed to provide the service (e.g. payment processors, disposal facilities, councils for permits).
  5. Why we collect and use information
    We use your information to:
    • Take bookings, deliver and pick up bins, and manage your hire.
    • Send service updates (e.g. delivery windows, pickup notifications).
    • Identify the right bin and waste type and provide quotes.
    • Process payments, issue receipts and, if required, charge agreed extras (e.g. over-weight) with a copy of the weigh docket.
    • Comply with legal requirements (health and safety, record-keeping, accounting/tax).
    • Improve our services and website, and prevent fraud or misuse.
  6. Lawful basis
We collect and use personal information for purposes you’d reasonably expect in providing skip hire, to perform our agreement with you, to meet our legal obligations, and for our legitimate business interests (such as planning safe access and improving our service). Where we rely on consent (e.g. optional marketing), you can withdraw it at any time.
  7. Sharing your information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share limited information with:
    • Payment providers to process your online payments.
    • Disposal/transfer stations to complete your job and obtain weigh dockets.
    • Drivers and service contractors to deliver/collect bins safely.
    • Councils or utilities if a permit, permission or safety check is needed.
    • IT/hosting and analytics providers who help operate our website and systems.
    • Law enforcement or regulators if required by law or to protect safety.
  8. Cookies & analytics
Our site uses essential cookies for security and basic functions, and may use analytics to understand site use (e.g. page visits, device types). You can adjust your browser settings to limit cookies; some features may not work without them.
  9. Retention
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above. Job and billing records (including weigh dockets) are generally kept for up to 7 years to meet accounting/legal requirements. We then securely delete or anonymise the data.
  10. Security
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from loss, misuse and unauthorised access. No system is 100% secure, but we apply practical safeguards and limit access to those who need it.
  11. Access, correction and your choices
You can request a copy of the personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct it if it’s wrong. You can also ask us to delete information we no longer need, and opt out of optional marketing at any time.
  12. Photos and site notes
If you send photos for quotes or access planning, we’ll store them with your booking. We may take photos at delivery/pickup to confirm placement, loading level or contamination, for safety and record-keeping.
  13. International storage
Some service providers (e.g. hosting, email, analytics) may store information in data centres outside New Zealand. Where used, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is protected to standards comparable to the Privacy Act 2020.
  14. Children
Our services are for adults arranging waste services. If you believe a child has provided us personal information without permission, contact us and we’ll address it.
  15. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version and “last updated” date will be available on our website. Continued use of our services after changes means you accept the updated policy.
