Christchurch Skip Hire (Pete’s Skips) — last updated September 2025.

1) Definitions
  • We/Us: Christchurch Skip Hire (Pete’s Skips)
  • You/Customer: The person/company ordering the bin and responsible for the site, the bin, and its contents while on hire
  • Bin: Any skip supplied by us
  • Site: The delivery address and placement location for the bin
2) Booking & Payment
  • Book online or by phone 027-2054877.
  • Payment must be made before delivery (pay online when ordering or by prior arrangement).
  • Prices may vary by suburb and waste type.
  • By checking the Skip Bin Rules and completing checkout (or confirming by phone) you accept these T&Cs.
3) Hire Period
  • Standard hire is 5 days.
  • If pickup falls on a weekend, we collect the following Monday.
  • Public holidays: pickup moves to the next business day.
  • Extensions or early pickups are by arrangement and may incur charges.
4) Delivery & Placement
  • Weekday delivery only unless arranged beforehand.
  • Clearly mark the placement spot and ensure access is clear from 7am on delivery/pickup days.
  • Final placement is at the driver’s discretion for safety, ground conditions, access and legal compliance.
5) Kerb/Footpath/Street Placement
  • Place bins on private property (driveway/front yard) on level, firm ground.
  • Council permits are generally required for kerb/footpath/street placement and must be arranged beforehand (fees/lead times may apply).
  • Without a permit we will not place the bin on the road, berm or footpath.

Important: If the bin is outside your property it’s open to misuse (others adding rubbish). You are responsible for contents, any damage, safe loading and any overweight/contamination charges while on hire.

6) Loading Rules (All Bins)
  • Level with the rim only — nothing protruding above the sides.
  • Load evenly and keep within the bin footprint.
  • We may refuse or remove unsafe loads.
7) Waste Types

General Waste Bins (household waste only):

  • Allowed: packaging, furniture, carpets, plastics, cardboard, timber/ply offcuts, metal odds & ends, small household items.
  • Not allowed: soil, lath & plaster, hardfill (concrete/brick/tiles), liquids (paint/oils/chemicals), hazardous items (asbestos, batteries, gas bottles), tyres.
  • E-waste (TVs/monitors) and mattresses/whiteware are accepted in general bins — no extra charges (standard weight limits apply).

Green-Waste Bins:

  • Green waste only (branches, leaves, hedge trimmings, lawn clippings).
  • No soil/dirt.
  • No treated timber.
  • No flax or palm fronds.
  • No toxic/irritant plants or poisonous weeds.
  • Small amounts of green waste may be mixed into a general bin, but not into a green-waste bin.

Hardfill Bins:

  • Hardfill = concrete, brick, pavers, tiles, and clean soil.
  • Do not mix hardfill with general or green waste.
8) Weight Allowances & Charges

General waste bins — included weight:

  • 2m³: 250 kg
  • 4.5m³: 450 kg
  • 6m³: 700 kg
  • 7m³: 900 kg

Hardfill bin:

  • 2m³ hardfill: 2,000 kg included

Over-weight charge (all bins): $45 per 100 kg (or part thereof) over the included allowance. We’ll email the weigh docket after disposal if charges apply.

9) Responsibility for the Bin
  • The bin is your responsibility while on-site. You are liable for contents, weight, contamination, and any damage beyond fair wear and tear.
  • To reduce misuse: place on private property, start filling soon after delivery, cover at night (tarp/straps), and request pickup once full.
10) Site Conditions & Damage
  • Trucks and bins are heavy — place on hard, level ground.
  • Lawns/soft ground are at your risk (ruts/indentations may occur).
  • We are not responsible for damage to surfaces or underground services unless advised in advance and agreed in writing.
11) Access Issues / Wasted Trip
If we cannot safely deliver or collect due to blocked access, unsafe ground, overfilled bins, or incorrect waste type, we may reschedule and a call-out fee may apply.
12) Changes, Cancellations & Early Pickup
  • Please call at least 24 hours before your scheduled delivery to change or cancel without fees.
  • Inside 24 hours, a call-out fee may apply if the truck is already dispatched.
  • If your bin is full early, call us to arrange early pickup or a swap (additional fees may apply).
13) Title to the Bin & Refusal of Loads
  • The bin remains our property at all times.
  • We may refuse collection and/or remove prohibited items if a bin breaches these T&Cs or applicable laws.
14) Health, Safety & Law
  • Do not place hazardous, explosive, poisonous or illegal materials in any bin.
  • You must comply with all laws and council requirements, including any permit conditions.
15) Governing Law
These T&Cs are governed by the laws of New Zealand. Any disputes are subject to the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.
16) Force Majeure
We are not liable for delay or failure to perform caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including severe weather, natural disasters, accidents, road closures, strikes, supply issues, epidemics, utility outages, or council/permit restrictions. If this happens, we will resume services as soon as reasonably practicable and may reschedule delivery/pickup.
17) Liability & Consumer Rights
To the maximum extent permitted by New Zealand law, our total liability for any loss or damage arising in connection with a hire is limited to the hire fees you paid for that bin. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss (e.g., loss of profit, business interruption), or for surface/ground damage where placement was chosen by you and risks were advised.

Nothing in these terms limits your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 or the Fair Trading Act 1986 where they apply.
